Duties & Responsibilities
South African Sugar Association (SASA) has a permanent opportunity available for aFixed Asset Controller,based inMount Edgecombe, KwaZulu-Natal.

This role would be reporting directly to the Financial Accountant and would be based in the Finance and Administration Division

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance of the fixed asset registers for SASA and its subsidiaries including the processing of transactions and depreciation in accordance with SASA's accounting policies and the timely preparation and updating of fixed asset registers for the respective divisions
  • To efficiently operate the accounting activities relating to Fixed Assets and SASA insurance portfolio in accordance with internal and external policies, procedures and controls
  • To ensure the safe custodianship of SASA assets by tracking and updating asset transfers and disposals
  • Verification of all fixed assets on an annual basis
  • To prepare and process all transactions relating to Fixed Assets and Insurance after ensuring that the correct authorisation has been obtained
  • Perform the function of client liaison for the SASA asset and motor vehicle insurance
  • To review the insurance claims listing for outstanding asset and motor vehicle claims, follow up on all claims and assist with the annual insurance renewal
  • Assistance with the tender of SASA assets for disposal
  • To provide assistance to the Finance Manager with Facilities Management, bulk printing and stock count related tasks
  • To assume responsibility of Health and safety for the division
  • To provide assistance to the Financial Accountant and Finance Manager in relation to Fixed Assets, SASA insurance portfolio, Facilities Management and other ad-hoc tasks
  • To communicate with the Financial Accountant and Finance Manager on any issues surrounding Fixed Assets, Insurance and Facilities Management

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience:
  • A three-year Diploma in Accounting and/or BCom Degree
  • Minimum two years working experience as an Accountant or Asset Controller, preferably in a centralised accounting department will be advantageous
  • Code EB Driver's license
  • Good working knowledge of Syspro
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Outlook Express)

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Have exceptional planning, organising, organizational and self-management skills
  • Be a team player and comfortable with written and verbal communication
  • Have a strong preference for working in an environment with established standards, guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Pay close attention to detail and are thorough and meticulous and take pride in the presentation of their deliverables
