We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Accountant to join our Finance Team in Liverpool. You will be the key support in preparing statutory financial statements and management. This role is important in ensuring delivery of financial performance contributing to Yodel's strategic plan.

What you'll be doing

Key support for the Head of Finance in providing a finance leadership role to produce a high standard of internally focussed financial reporting, including development of Financial Informatics utilising the Business Intelligence tools already available to the business.

This role will predominantly be focussed on Operational Management Accounting, and will also give exposure to Revenue and Overhead Accounting as well as statutory and tax reporting.

The successful candidate will manage one direct report and will work with stakeholders across the business, with a close partnership with the Operational Finance Business Partners.

In addition to this you will also be responsible for the following:
  • Support the Finance leadership teams in providing a high-quality financial accounting and reporting service and in increasing financial and cash awareness throughout the business.
  • A strong advocate for adherence to Yodel financial policies and procedures, maintaining financial control and governance throughout the business.
  • Tight balance sheet control with all allocated control accounts properly reconciled monthly.
  • Provision of timely and accurate management and financial reports for all statutory and business entities, with variance analysis as required, adopting a culture of 'no surprises'.
  • Preparation of financial analysis, building effective relationships with budget leads and management across the business.
  • Drive operational cost performance in accordance with strategic objectives, using initiative and adopting an innovative approach to cost reduction where appropriate.
  • Work closely with peer group to ensure joined up reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Pro-actively investigate variances in expected financial performance, whether positive or negative, to identify root cause and, as necessary help to implement corrective action.
  • Ad hoc project work, and other support for finance and the wider business as requested from time to time.


What you need to show us

The successful Senior Accountant will need to be a qualified chartered accountant with a professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA). You will be able to demonstrate a track record of delivering projects to tight deadlines. You will also need to possess the following skills and experience for this role:
  • Previous experience of working in a similar role with extensive knowledge of IFRS, business reporting and balance sheet control.
  • Strong communications skills with emphasis on achieving results and successful outcomes. Works in a collaborative and open way.
  • A good relationship builder, able to support and challenge colleagues in a constructive and effective manner.
  • Good knowledge of Excel and preferably BI software such as Tableau
  • Strong work ethic with focus on detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Quick learner and able to adapt within a dynamic working environment.
  • FMCG organisation experience and demonstration of project management would be desirable.
