Bennett Thrasher ("BT") has an opening for a State Income Tax Manager. The SALT (State and Local Tax) team provides critical assistance in addressing clients' state and local tax issues. The team is looking to add a State Income Tax Manager to grow the state income tax practice at Bennett Thrasher.

Bennett Thrasher ("BT") has an opening for a State Income Tax Manager. The SALT (State and Local Tax) team provides critical assistance in addressing clients' state and local tax issues. The team is looking to add a State Income Tax Manager to grow the state income tax practice at Bennett Thrasher.
Responsibilities:
- Developing process in conjunction with BT tax preparation teams and development of workpapers for broadly experienced issues
- Strategic review of returns (e.g., higher risk or opportunity returns)
- Answering questions from other teams across the firm
- Finding opportunities from integration with BT tax preparation teams and pursuing studies
- Appointment studies: sourcing of services, special industry, and nonbusiness vs. business (e.g., gain on sale)
- Filing methodology studies: beneficial elections and requirements
- Public Law 86-272 studies
- Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) SALT consulting: 163(j), GILTI, etc.
- Resolving material prior period exposure for applicable clients: Modeling Impact
- State modification review: Virginia pre-FTI modifications
- Residency Issues for high-net worth individuals
- Provide proactive state income tax planning
- State income tax controversy work
- Responsible for state income tax trainings for firm
- Maintain open communication with management regarding projects' progress and deadlines
- Build and maintain positive relationships across the firm
- Support interns and non-state tax staff in professional development
- Undergraduate degree required, CPA or JD preferred
- Advanced knowledge of state income taxation
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
- Strong commitment to professional and client service excellence
- Time management, organizational and prioritization skills
- Ability to effectively manage multiple engagements simultaneously
