JOB DESCRIPTION
Job purpose
The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for general ledger accountability, inventory reporting, as well as overhead and import factory reporting.
Duties and responsibilities
Prepare monthly inventory reconciliations and valuation including direct cost (factory or BOM), related freight, labor, and overhead.
Responsible for ensuring in-transit inventory is accurately reported.
Monitor and value quality control inventory.
Monitor inventory transactions for reasonableness and research unusual activity.
Responsible for inventory and overhead general ledger accounts.
Responsible for analysis of overhead related expenses and allocating costs incurred proportionally between import and manufactured expense accounts.
Responsible for calculating the appropriate capitalization rates for labor, overhead, and freight.
Prepare monthly account reconciliations.
Monitor and reconcile cost of goods sold accounts.
Monitor and record production values.
Responsible for identifying obsolete inventory and maintaining appropriate reserve values.
Responsible for rolling the processing month after each month closes.
Maintain current cost of raw materials and finished goods in the system.
Ensure timely preparation and distribution of monthly reports to internal personnel.
Analyze costs associated with domestic suites and apply appropriate factors for pricing calculation.
Assist with annual physical inventory count process.
Work with external auditors at yearend to provide necessary documentation and reports.
Assist with bank audits and inventory appraisals providing support, documentation and reports.
G/L System Maintenance
Ability to manage competing priorities.
Conscientious about timeliness of assignments and quality of work product.
Ability to adapt quickly and learn new tasks independently.
Ability to follow internal controls.
Establish new and enforce existing procedures and internal controls.
All other job-related duties as assigned.
QualificationsRequired
Degree in accounting.
3+ years senior level cost accounting.
Advanced Level Excel skills.
Preferred
5+ years plus Cost Accounting experience, including experience in industry.
JD Edwards experience
Advanced computer skills
Working conditions
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines.
Mental Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
May be required to travel on occasion.
