As the Senior Tax Specialist (Indirect Tax), you'll play a crucial role in ensuring tax compliance, optimizing tax strategies, and contributing to the financial success of a rapidly expanding fintech organization. This position offers the chance to work with cutting-edge financial technologies while navigating the complex tax landscapes of multiple African countries.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Drive the development and implementation of global tax processes and policies
• Provide expert guidance on tax implications for business decisions and transactions
• Manage diverse tax projects aimed at optimizing the company's tax position and efficiency
• Lead VAT and other tax reconciliations, supporting the financial accounting teams
• Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and tax regulations across multiple jurisdictions
• Coordinate and prepare VAT returns and other indirect tax-related reports for various African countries
• Implement and manage transfer pricing processes in line with company policies
• Identify and mitigate tax risks, conducting due diligence and health checks
• Manage tax audits and liaise with tax authorities
• Mentor junior team members and provide tax-related training across the organization
Desired Experience & Qualification
• Post Graduate Honours Degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting or Tax (Chartered Accountant preferred)
• Registered tax practitioner/professional tax certification (preferred)
• VAT Certification
• Minimum 5 years' experience in a tax role, with at least 3 years focused on VAT and indirect taxes
• Experience in supervising/leading a team (3+ years)
• Proven track record in a multinational organization, accounting firm, or financial/fintech institution, preferably in Africa (5+ years)
• Advanced knowledge of corporate tax and VAT legislation, including VAT apportionment
• Strong understanding of global tax regulations, with a focus on Africa
• Proficiency in tax software, financial systems, and Microsoft Office suite
• Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills
