Introduction
Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited ("WHC") is a wholly-owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences. WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives. In addition, WHC offers a range of products and services to Academics.
Description
Main purpose of the job:
To provide a strategic financial and administrative framework within which the Core department are able to function optimally and to provide leadership with regard to all financial matters
Location:
31 Princess of Wales Terrace, Parktown - Johannesburg
Key performance areas:
Financial management
Develop and implement financial strategies, including systems, processes, procedures and policies by practicing sound governance
Implement and enhance financial and accounting systems, processes, tools and control systems
Provide strategies in the set-up of the Finance department
Establish financial management mechanisms that reduce financial risk
Oversee legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions
Review and approval of all relevant journals
Review and approval of all monthly balance sheet reconciliations
Assist/back up to the accountants on EPMV compliance
Close out - Review TB and ensure all entries have been captured, assets transferred, and account closed
Follow up on long outstanding internal and external debtors
Petty cash/Ewallet/pro cards/ FNB credit and debit cards - review and approve recons
Maintain and update the finance dashboard
Subawards - Ensure reports are received timeously and expenses captured timeously
Ensure compliance with donor requirements and management of audits
Ensuring all costs incurred by the division are compliant with WHC policies as well as donor rules
Includes timing and planning of audit
Liaising with WHC Compliance, donors and auditors on issues raised and resolving such issues
Assist with queries from the Auditor
Assist to coordinates audit support from their respective teams
Acceptable level of compliance issues will determine performance
Financial reporting
Manage the consolidation of relevant financial reporting data
Manage and review all month-end and year-end closing activities
Manage the preparation and communication of month-end and year-end financial statements
Perform monthly Income analysis on a budget vs Actual basis
Produce accurate financial reports within set deadlines to relevant stakeholders
Perform trend analysis and make recommendations
Review TB for year end
Stakeholder liaison, customer service and financial advice
Gain a full understanding of the division's needs
Alert the division of exceptional problems
Communicate with senior management (including Leadership Groups) regarding cash flow and business developments
Provide strategic input and advice into the appropriate resource and technical capacities for WHC
Serve as the point of contact for internal and external auditors
Communicate with site daily and provide relevant assistance
Required minimum education and training:
Bachelor's Degree in financial field
Required minimum work experience:
Minimum 5 years' experience in Accounting and/or Financial Management
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
Sound knowledge of financial management
Sound written and verbal communication skills
A broad knowledge and understanding of financial and management accounting principles
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and accounting systems i.e. Sage X3
A high degree of integrity and trust. Attention to detail, meticulous and thorough
Ability to influence and negotiate with all stakeholders and manage people
Able to prioritise own workload in meeting deadlines and handle pressure
Available and able to work overtime when required
Maintain effective working relationships will all stakeholders
