This position reports directly to the USI Tax Leader in the US and is primarily responsible for the overall performance and effectiveness of the USI Tax practice. This position will be accountable for the implementation of growth strategies, quality control practices, operational expertise, hiring, and compliance with policies. This leader is a role model for the highest quality, client service excellence, people development, talent retention, and leadership of the USI Tax practice. Other attributes:
Balances the competing interests and complex challenges of a matrix for the long-term benefit of the firm
Serves as a leader by collaborating with US and Canada Tax Leadership
Works with other USI Leadership and LOBs to broker decisions in support of Tax strategy
Plans and leads the implementation, with the capability leaders, of the USI operating plans and initiatives for tax.
Executes capability strategies within the tax practice.
Supports global network and strategy.
May manage a small book of business (10-15% of total commitment) to maintain technical and process skills.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Ensure USI Tax is strategically aligned with Tax LOB and Enterprise USI as well as USI Audit and USI Consulting, as appropriate, maintaining awareness of current state and future plans via regular connections with appropriate groups and sharing learnings/collaborating with USI Leader (for example, real estate, back to office, etc.)
Responsible for day-to-day oversight of USI Tax; including acting as the escalation point for issues.
Partner with USI Capability Leads to ensure quality work is produced in a timely manner and issues are identified and remediated; developing/ implementing/ monitoring associated processes to ensure timeliness and quality.
Partner with USI Capability Leads to ensure quality work is produced in a timely manner and issues are identified and remediated; developing/implementing/monitoring associated processes to ensure timeliness and quality.
Ensure US tax technical developments are appropriately communicated to the tax practice and a process for implementation is established.
Oversee the USI Tax Operations team and all USI Tax capabilities.
Drive/ensure profitability, keeping eye on utilization, establishing and managing budgets (for example, local travel, firm events, training, etc.)
Plan and anticipate for the growth of the practice (consulting with US Tax leaders to identify/onboard additional Capabilities and services, growth of skillsets and head count) and implement strategy; providing forward looking analysis of issues and opportunities to maintain the practice and drive continuous improvement; develop operating and performance plans for 6,12 and 18 months out.
Work with US internal teams to ensure appropriate reporting is developed to manage the USI Tax practice, analysis is done, conclusions are drawn and shared as appropriate for approval and awareness, and next steps are formulated and executed.
Ensure operational risks are identified and remediated; including but not limited to ensuring established 7216 protocol and practices are being maintained.
Collaborate with US Capability Champions to ensure Capability needs are identified and addressed (for example leverage model, hiring model, anticipated short term needs, etc.)
Collaborate with the appropriate teams on policy development/recruiting/hiring/onboarding/training and talent development/retention/CPE/licensing/technology, including identification and remediation of issues (inclusive of RM, HR, TA, TDM, IT, Finance, etc.)
Own/oversee operational communication to USI (emails, Tax townhalls, etc.); partner with USI Tax lead on communication needs for US and Canada
Oversee event planning and coordination for Tax USI (leadership visits, employee events, etc.)
Demonstrate and promote the 5 C's (caring, curious, collaborative, courageous, critically thinking); including site visits, attending events and ensuring events & practices are in place to maintain morale.
Create a people environment of trust, teamwork, and development through quality communication, relationships, coaching and mentoring strategies.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree
EA or CPA required.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum 15 years' total experience in a tax practice role in a professional services firm
Minimum of 10 years managing others in a leadership role
