A leading government-owned development finance institution committed to driving sustainable development and economic growth is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Principal Investment Officer to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will work closely with the Transacting Head to formulate and execute strategic objectives. You will be accountable for moving investment opportunities and projects, provided by the Coverage Team, from early review to bankability.

They focus on creating impactful investment opportunities that advance infrastructure and development across South Africa and Africa.

Key Responsibilities:

• Formulate and execute strategic business objectives in collaboration with the Transacting Head.
• Move investment opportunities/projects from early review to bankability.
• Appraise, negotiate, and close Project Finance, Corporate Finance, or Structured Finance transactions.
• Secure infrastructure investment deals in relevant sectors and geographies within South Africa and/or Africa.
• Lead, initiate, and develop new business strategies to create a pipeline of development impact projects.
• Utilize financial models to assess and drive investment decisions.
• Demonstrate a deep understanding of the infrastructure market, financial markets, and macroeconomic landscape.

Qualifications:

• Education: Honours degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, Engineering, or Economics.
• Post-Graduate Qualification: CA, CFA, or MBA is highly preferred.
• Experience: Proven track record in appraising, negotiating, and closing Project Finance, Corporate Finance, or Structured Finance transactions in a financial institution.
• Infrastructure Investment: Experience in securing infrastructure investment deals in relevant sectors and geographies within South Africa and/or Africa.
• Business Strategy: Experience in leading and developing new business strategies to ensure deal flow and bankability.
• Financial Modelling: Proficiency in using financial models.
• Market Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of the infrastructure market, financial markets, and the macroeconomic landscape.
