We are looking for a Finance Analyst to join our Team based in Whitley (DN14 0HR), and we offer flexible hybrid working (2-3 days per week in the office).

What will you be doing in this role?

In this role you'll be responsible for providing analytical and commercial support across your area(s) of responsibility. This will involve producing accurate and timely financial management reporting, forecasting / budgeting and any Ad Hoc finance support to Business Unit Managers to aid decision making.

The Ideal candidate:

An experienced, analytical individual with proven experience with Excel, reporting, forecasting and collaborating with key stakeholders

Required skills and experience
  • Ideally part qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA),
  • A degree in a suitable related subject (business finance, finance, or accountancy) or relevant equivalent experience,
  • Previous experience within a commercial Finance team assisting or producing management accounts,
  • A clear understanding of both accounting and of the commercial drivers underlying financial performance,
  • Advanced Excel user (pivot tables, lookups, & complex formulas),
  • Excellent qualitative, quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to collect, organise, analyse and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy,
  • An excellent understanding of data analysis and business reporting,
  • Good communication skills, able to communicate confidently and positively influence at all levels across functional and organisational boundaries,
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritise, work to tight timescales and meet conflicting demands,
  • Great relationship building skills, able to develop close and constructive relationships at all levels,
  • Ability to continuously look for incisive insight into business performance,
  • Collaborative approach, able to work effectively as part of a team or individually,
  • Proactive, with a hands-on approach to solving problems,
  • Adaptable and flexible in approach, receptive to change.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
  • Assist the Finance Business Partner with the preparation of standard monthly reporting (Flash Report, Monthly Management Accounts, MI and KPIs) and commentary within prescribed deadlines.
  • Maintain budget / rolling forecast models to improve forecast accuracy and the efficiency of the budget / forecast process. Assist the Finance Business Partner in carrying out reviews with the responsible Business unit Managers to understand the key drivers to budgetary success.
  • Assist the Finance Business Partner through the tender / bid process, working closely with the Bids team, providing financial analysis, proposition development and robust commercial models. This will include financial assessment such as discounted cash-flow, ROCE and other measures to demonstrate financial viability and any asset or working capital investment requirements.
  • Support the business units through contract mobilisation to BAU, including supporting on TUPE transfers. Develop a clear understanding of individual contract specification and terms to ensure compliance and working with the relevant Business Unit Managers to develop plans to exploit opportunities and mitigate risks.
  • Assist the Finance Business Partner in the review of Customer / Contract / Business unit profitability, working with Business Unit Managers to develop cost reduction initiatives, business improvement projects and customer / contract development plans.
  • Assist in the development of flexible, competitive pricing models, responsive to market and customer demand, recognising the different business unit cost drivers; and price / margin sensitivity.
