Job Summary
The University of Utah Campus Store is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to oversee reconciliation and other general accounting duties. This role is essential for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data, particularly in the use of NetSuite, our financial management software. This position will play a critical role in managing daily accounting operations, performing reconciliations, overseeing sales tax compliance, generating essential reports from NetSuite, and ensuring adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Under the direction of the Assoc. Director of Finance, this position is responsible for maintaining and reconciling assigned general ledger accounts, running a variety of reports, and analyzing the data per GAAP guidelines for the University Campus Store. Applicants must be a self-starter in learning native accounting systems with a strong background in excel. This position will supervise up to two part-time interns and is part of a multifaceted team consisting of up to ten full and part-time staff members.

Responsibilities
· Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, credit card transactions, and other financial data.· Ensure all transactions are accurately recorded within NetSuite and PeopleSoft, the system of record for the University. · Identify and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.· Prepare and maintain detailed reconciliation reports.· Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring all entries are accurate, compliant with GAAP, and university accounting policies.· Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.· Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.· Oversee the accurate calculation and reporting of sales tax for all Campus Store transactions.· Ensure compliance with state and local sales tax regulations.· Monitor changes in sales tax laws and regulations and update procedures accordingly.· Utilize NetSuite and PeopleSoft for all accounting, reconciliation, and reporting activities.· Generate and analyze financial reports from NetSuite to support decision-making and ensure accurate financial tracking.· Ensure data integrity within NetSuite by regularly reviewing and updating financial records.· Collaborate with IT and other departments to optimize NetSuite functionality for accounting processes.· Stay current on industry trends and best practices in accounting and financial management.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, plus one year related experience or equivalency (two years of related work experience can be substituted for one year of education) required. A thorough understanding of general ledger accounting practices, cost analysis and accounting principles, as well as demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relations and effective communication skills also required.
Knowledge of PeopleSoft or Access databases may be preferred in some areas.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
