FirstRand Limited (FirstRand) is the holding company of the FirstRand group of companies. These companies are engaged in diverse financial services activities in the areas of retail, corporate, investment and merchant banking, insurance, asset and property management.
The capital management team is responsible for managing the group's capital to ensure sustainability and growth. This includes targeting the optimal level and composition of capital within risk appetite in a manner that maximises shareholder value and gives comfort to a range of stakeholders. This unit is also responsible for monitoring of capital adequacy of all entities across the group.
The capital management unit offers an exciting opportunity to an energetic individual to join the unit as capital analyst with exposure to capital management for all legal entities covering banking, insurance, asset management and other (unregulated entities).

Financial conglomerates, ICAAP and resolution frameworks

Qualifications and experience
This job will frequently require working to tight deadlines and will often involve working overtime. S/he must be able to work innovatively in his/her effort to add the maximum value to the role. This person must also be motivated to take on multiple tasks, remain calm under pressure and manage time well. Due to the nature of the work, confidentiality and ethics are of utmost importance.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Regulatory reporting
- Regulatory reporting for FirstRand Limited, FirstRand Bank Limited and its regulated subsidiaries.
- Analysis of current bank regulations (home and host) as well as proposed regulations.
- Final reforms (Basel IV) implementation and reporting, involvement in impact assessments for bank and group.
- Involvement in the PA's quantitative impact studies and assessment of proposed regulatory changes.
- Regulatory interpretation and application to proposed group structures/transactions.
- Coordination and liaise with internal and external audit.
Internal and external reporting
- Management reporting to internal governance and strategic forums (ALCCOs, FRMs, Excos, etc)
- External reporting (semi-annual and quarterly) including results booklets, annual reports, standardised disclosures, Pillar 3 and prompt sheets).
- Competitor analysis.
Financial conglomerates, ICAAP and resolution frameworks
- Responsibility for the capital related inputs for Internal capital adequacy assessment programme (ICAAP) and resolution planning for the group.
- Capital standards under the financial conglomerate framework.
- Involvement in the recovery and resolution planning from a capital management perspective.
- Involvement in capital optimisation initiatives.
- Analysis of rating agency approaches and methodologies, including changes, for use in frameworks.
Relationships
- Develop and maintain relationships within the FirstRand Group Treasury, Group finance, Group Investor Relations, Group Tax and operating businesses.
- Develop and maintain external stakeholder relationships.
Qualifications and experience
- Relevant Chartered Accountant or finance degree
- High proficiency in Advanced Excel, PowerPoint and Word, and possess excellent communication skills (particularly written) and good organisational abilities.
- HFM experience beneficial.
- Understanding of banking and insurance regulations beneficial.
