The Senior Financial Accountant will play a pivotal role in managing the company's financial reporting processes, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, including IFRS 9, and maintaining strong internal controls. This position will partner closely with senior management to provide accurate financial data, support strategic decision-making, and drive improvements in financial processes and systems. Experience within the financial services industry, specifically in the Credit / Lending field will be beneficial

Financial Reporting
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS or GAAP
  • Assist in the preparation of group consolidations and statutory reports
  • Compile and analyse financial data to provide meaningful insights for management decision-making
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders

Month-End and Year-End Processes
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, including reconciliations, accruals, and adjustments
  • Coordinate with various departments to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial information
  • Review and maintain general ledger accounts, ensuring correct entries and classifications

Compliance and Internal Controls
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax laws, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial data
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors, providing necessary information and support

Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Support the annual budgeting and forecasting processes by providing accurate financial data and analysis
  • Monitor budget variances and assist in preparing reports to highlight trends, risks, and opportunities

IFRS 9 Compliance
  • Maintain processes to ensure compliance with IFRS 9 standards, specifically focusing on the classification, measurement, and impairment of financial assets and liabilities.
  • Collaborate with risk management teams to analyse credit risk and maintain appropriate provisioning

Stakeholder Engagement
  • Collaborate closely with the Finance team to ensure accurate and timely financial data
  • Engage with Product/Business Owners to align financial processes with business objectives
  • Work with the Chief Risk Officer on risk management strategies, particularly around credit risk and compliance with IFRS 9
  • Partner with the CFO and CEO to provide insights for strategic financial planning and decision-making
  • Regularly report to senior management, including the preparation and presentation of financial information

Qualification / Skills / Knowledge Required
  • Grade 12
  • AGA (SA) or Equivalent
  • 4+ year post article experience within Financial Services Industry, Credit / Lending experience will be highly advantageous
  • Sound Knowledge and experience of IFRS 9
  • Proficient in financial software and advanced Excel skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • High level of integrity and ethical standards
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn and grow within the role
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of responsibility and accountability
