The Credit Controller is responsible for managing the credit control function within the finance department. This role involves ensuring that all invoices are issued accurately and on time, chasing overdue payments, and maintaining healthy cash flow for the company.
Key Responsibilities:
Invoice Management:
- Ensure timely and accurate issuance of invoices to clients.
- Verify invoice details, including charges, taxes, and client information.
Debt Collection:
- Monitor account receivables and follow up on overdue accounts via phone calls, emails, and letters.
- Negotiate payment plans with clients when necessary.
Cash Flow Management:
- Work closely with the sales and account management teams to understand client contracts and billing requirements.
- Provide regular reports on accounts receivable and cash flow forecasts.
Credit Risk Assessment:
- Conduct credit limit reviews and risk assessments for new and existing clients.
- Recommend credit terms and limits based on financial analysis and risk assessment.
Account Reconciliation:
- Reconcile client accounts and resolve any discrepancies or disputes.
- Ensure all payments are correctly allocated against invoices.
Reporting:
- Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports related to accounts receivable.
- Provide detailed analysis of aged debtors and overdue invoices.
Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, company policies, and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial information.
Administration:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all transactions and communications.
- Support the finance team with ad hoc projects and tasks as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent is advantageous.
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in credit control or accounts receivable.
- Strong numerical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
- Proficient in using accounting software and spreadsheets.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- A proactive and solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving.
