Position Overview:
This position develops, implements and directs Compeer's tax and accounting program. The incumbent is responsible for providing strategic direction regarding product and service delivery in alignment with Compeer’s business growth and profitability targets. The incumbent creates a performance environment that optimizes strategy execution and supports Compeer’s culture blueprint.

Essential Functions:

  • Defines the tax and accounting team’s strategic direction and goals.
  • Ensures talent recruitment, retention and development to achieve defined business objectives.
  • Directly leads and develops the tax and accounting management team.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with other senior leaders in operations, human resources, finance, legal and compliance, marketing and business technology to optimize business unit performance.
  • Provides timely communication around Compeer and tax and accounting including team priorities, metrics and accountability, results and recognition.
  • Ensures sufficient technical expertise within the business unit and individual roles to deliver tax and accounting expertise to agricultural clients and producers in a differentiated manner.

Minimum Qualifications & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting finance, economics, agribusiness or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in accounting, finance, insurance or business management.
  • Five to seven years of leadership and management experience preferred.
  • Certified Public Accounting (CPA) certification or Enrolled Agent (EA) certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal and state (Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin) laws, regulations and compliance requirements specific to the financial industry and Farm Credit.
  • Focus on marketing and sales with emphasis on business growth.
  • Strategic and innovative.
  • Leadership skills to select, evaluate, engage, motivate, mentor, train, delegate, reward and lead team members.
  • Strong listening, written and verbal communication skills, with ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Strong problem solving, decision making and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office applications and customer relationship management (CRM) programs.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
  • Ability to remain objective in balancing business needs and risk.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other teams to achieve goals and represent the business.
  • Valid driver’s license.
