Introduction
Our client in the energy sector is seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to be based at their head office in Umhlanga, Durban.
Duties & Responsibilities
Statutory Accounting
  • Customer billing and month-end processes and journals.
  • Review bank statement capture and bank reconciliations
  • Review and/or preparation of all GL reconciliations.
  • Maintenance of the fixed asset register including monthly depreciation, additions, disposals and scrapping.
  • Review and release of journals, invoices, purchase requisitions and purchase orders.
  • Review of all invoices and reconciliations ensuring correct governance processes adhered to, prior to payment.
  • Preparation, submission and compliance with all tax requirements including, SARS filing requirements (includes Income Tax, VAT, EMP201's and EMP501 reconciliations, DTR and all other payroll related tax submissions) and preparation of monthly and annual tax computations.
  • Provide oversight and supervision of junior staff involved in accounts payable, accounts receivable, procurement and bank and cash functions
  • Responds to financial inquiries by gathering, analysing, summarizing, and interpreting data.
  • Prepares reports and analysis as required.


Accounting Support
  • Credit control management including customer credit risk analysis and evaluation, timely debt collection, adherence to the credit control policy.
  • Assisting with preparation, calculations and reconciliations pertaining to the annual and long-term business plans for all aspects of the plan


Governance and Statutory Compliance
  • Responsible for the financial aspects of all company transactions; ensures the maintenance of appropriate and adequate financial records, manages the preparation of statutory financial reports (as required)
  • Keeping up to date and ensuring company compliance with financial regulations and standards, e.g. IFRS; Tax laws, Company law.
  • Support the finance team in the external, internal, BBBEE and regulatory audit processes; and preparation of audit deliverables as required.
  • Insurance management, assessments, and renewals.
  • Preparation of reports and submissions to Committees and Board as required


Stakeholder Relationships
  • Establish and maintain lines of communication with stakeholders including; system service providers, bankers, suppliers, customers, consultants, directors, shareholders in conjunction with the finance team leadership.


Administrative Support
  • Business understanding, value addition to stakeholders
  • Updates job knowledge by keeping current with financial regulations and accepted practices; IFRS, tax, reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks.

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Majoring in Accounting
  • At least 5 years accounting experience including general accounting
