The company and opportunity:
This is a fantastic opportunity for the best in Accounting! My Client is based in Henderson and is a successful, long-established business that has been around for over 75 years! They have an extensive New Zealand network, with six major sites nationwide incorporating sales, service and logistics expertise. They are looking for a Company Accountant and this role would be ideal for an Assistant Accountant wanting to move a step up!
This is a temporary role until February but for the right person this has the potential to go permanent. It will be full time, Monday to Friday and this person will be an integral part of the team within the organisation. You will need to have excellent attention to detail when dealing with financial data and the ability to meet targets and deadlines. You must be able to confidently complete the month end reporting pack, complete tax returns such as PAYE, GST, FBT etc, and help the team with extracting data from our ERP system.

Some of your key areas of responsibility will include:
- Compiles financial information to prepare entries to accounts and documents business transactions
- Prepares monthly financial statements, reconciles general ledger accounts, prepares balance sheet, P & L etc to describe current and projected financial position
- Prepares financial statements for audit purposes, collects necessary data and prepares and submits tax returns/statutory returns to appropriate statutory authorities
- Assists in supervising internal and external audit processes
- Collects appropriate data and prepares taxation returns ie GST, FBT and NRWT
- Assists external accountants with preparation of income tax returns, manages and prepares all aspects of cashflow reporting
and forecasting - Generates inventory variances, responsible for correct and accurate accounting classifications all expenditure and documents
- Assist with budget preparation, process all bad debt write off
- Be the backup with Payroll
To be successful in this role:
- Bachelor of Commerce or Business or equivalent (Accounting) essential and Ideally CA qualified
- Must be advanced in Excel and Word. Proficient in Vloopup and formulas
- 3+ years financial accounting experience (or similar)
- Good computer proficiency and ability to learn new systems and procedures.
- Advanced numeracy and analytical capability
- Exposure to best practice accounting practices preferred
- Good verbal and written communication skills, required both internally and with external parties
- As this may turn into a permanent role, those only with a valid working visa,NZ Citizenship or permanent residency will be considered for this role
