Your New Role
The Global Head of Tax Controversy will lead AstraZeneca's global tax controversy strategy and operations. This role involves managing and resolving tax audits and disputes across multiple taxes and jurisdictions, providing strategic guidance on complex tax matters, and mitigating potential risks. The Senior Director will work closely with internal stakeholders, external advisors, and tax authorities to ensure compliance and protect the company's interests while fostering a collaborative and proactive tax culture within the organization.

Your Scope
Strategic Development:
- Develop & Implement a global tax controversy strategy aligned with business goals.
- Set long-term objectives and KPIs for the tax controversy team.
Team Leadership:
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and foster a culture of high performance and collaboration.
Regulatory Awareness:
- Stay informed on global tax trends and advise senior management on implications.
Tax Controversy Management
Audit & Dispute Resolution:
- Lead and manage tax audits, disputes, and litigation, ensuring timely resolution.
- Develop strategies for negotiating with tax authorities.
Documentation & Compliance:
- Ensure thorough documentation and coordinate responses to tax authorities.
- Input into external tax reporting processes and ensure proper documentation for auditors.
External Relations:
- Build relationships with tax authorities and advisors, representing AstraZeneca in discussions and hearings.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Internal Communication: Collaborate with internal stakeholders and communicate tax issues clearly.
- Cross-Functional Projects: Ensure tax considerations are integrated into business decisions.
- Training & Development: Deliver training programs on tax controversy issues and compliance.
Risk Management:
- Risk Identification & Mitigation: Identify tax audit risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Internal Controls: Contribute to internal control frameworks and conduct reviews for best practices.
Continuous Improvement:
- Process Optimization: Drive initiatives to enhance efficiency and leverage technology for better tax management.
- Best Practices: Implement best practices and benchmark against industry standards.
Your Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in tax controversy, tax litigation, or a related field within a multinational corporation, law firm or a Big 4 accounting firm.
- Extensive experience in managing global tax audits and disputes, with a proven track record of successful tax controversy resolution.
- In-depth knowledge of international tax laws, regulations, and practices.
- Ability to pre-empt latest tax risks and leverage technology to design processes to facilitate dispute resolution.
