Mō te tūranga | About the Role

The Operational Excellence Manager is a varied role that works with multiple stakeholders across Institutional and Business Banking (IBB) and the wider teams within Westpac, to develop and deliver, new ways of working that drive improvements for IBB customers and employees. This role will be responsible for leading and supporting strategic projects such as enterprise change programmes, process improvements, and regulatory, policy and system changes.

You will support the business to close existing operational risks and issues and ensure the most effective, efficient, and low risk operational practices are in place. Deliver key analysis and initiatives across the business to enable continuous improvement, deliver business plans, and drive the IBB and Westpac strategy, ensuring operational excellence is forefront of mind.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Integrate Lean methodology and analytics into operational processes to drive improvements and resolve issues
  • Implement project governance disciplines to establish a mandate for change, drive execution, and manage delivery risks
  • Lead and facilitate project meetings and workshops. Including preparation of meeting artifacts, and project documentation
  • Help identify and evaluate risk areas and root causes across within operational activities
  • Utilise data to drive continuous improvement in productivity, quality and customer service
  • Identify gaps, capture key activities that require standardisation, and implement sustainable initiatives.

This role will be suitable for a candidate who is naturally curious, asks insightful questions and can ‘connect the dots'. The successful candidate will have a high level of proven project management and senior stakeholder management experience. In addition, you will have:
  • Must possess a tactful communication style (both verbal and written), with the ability to craft compelling narratives and value propositions, develop presentations, and present effectively to stakeholders across the business
  • Understanding of project management and change management frameworks will be advantageous
  • Strong understanding of creating and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's)
  • Previous experience in a similar role, particularly within the banking or financial services industry
  • Ability to perform process analysis, improvement and implementation on a national scope
  • Robust financial expertise and a deep understanding of the financial services industry, or consulting experience in the sector will be highly advantageous
  • Ideally prior frontline banking experience and a strong understanding of Westpac's products, processes and systems
  • Ability to analyse a situation/problem and develop an effective and efficient solution for stakeholders
  • Six Sigma/Lean experience will be beneficial
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively influence outcomes beyond individual's area of direct responsibility
  • Proficient experience in Microsoft Office suite
  • A tertiary qualification in Commerce or a related industry.
