Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: £32,215 per annum (£35,607 per annum is achieved after 12 months successful performance in the role)
Working Hours: 35 hours per week
Working Pattern: Monday - Friday
Location: Hybrid - Liverpool

The difference you will make as a Tax & Treasury Accountant Assistant
The Tax and Treasury Accounting Assistant is a finance professional reporting to the Group Tax Manager. First and foremost, the role will support the Group Tax Manager in the collation of accounting information for the Group tax returns and the preparation of those returns, especially VAT. However, as tax work is cyclical in nature, the role will also offer support to the Treasury Accountant when time permits.
This role requires to job holder to travel and work at least once a month for 1-2 days per month in the Riverside Offices in Speke, Liverpool and / or Camden, London.

About you
We are looking for someone who has:
- Demonstrable knowledge of transactional accounting or double entry bookkeeping to trial balance level or part qualified / studying accountant.
- Demonstrable knowledge of technical accounting skills.
- Significant IT literacy, particularly strong demonstrable Excel skills; must be comfortable manipulating data to produce high quality reports and also be able to present and interpret reports when called upon so to do.
- Previous experience downloading reports from financial accounting software packages (preferably SUN and / or Oracle) and knowledge as to how to create new reports.

Role Profile
- Carry out complex, non-standard financial accounting activity for the Group and subsidiaries, especially in relation to tax and treasury.
- Be able to collate and interpret financial information to flow into different types of tax returns, including but not limited to the Group VAT return and Corporation Tax returns. This includes being able to interrogate financial accounting systems and run reports, currently in SUN (moving to Oracle).
- Assist the Group Tax Manager in the preparation of tax returns, including but not limited to the Group VAT return. This includes being able to write and utilise large, complex spreadsheets, including macros.
- Act as a point of contact between the business and our tax advisers, supplying data for the corporation tax returns for the group and answering any queries that may arise on the information supplied.
- Assist with ensuring the correct accounting treatment for tax sensitive items, alongside the Financial Accounting team.
- Assist the Group Tax Manager with any ad hoc tax queries from the wider business and / or enquiries by the Tax Authorities.
- When requested, support either the Group Tax Manager or the Treasury Accountant with project work to support the wider business.
- If requested, support the Financial Reporting team in the delivery of all external audits. This may include assisting the tax and treasury teams with the preparation and supply of financial information, year-end working papers, reconciliations or other audit information as required and in line with financial reporting and statutory requirements.
- Ensure tax processes and procedures are reviewed and updated as required.
- Actively contribute to regular reviews of the tax function, seeking feedback from internal and external stakeholders, to continually improve the service provision and identify efficiencies where possible.
- Assist with keeping the Tax Risk Matrix up to date and any internal reporting required on the tax status of the group.
Supporting the Treasury Accountant:
- Where time permits, assist the Treasury Accountant with interest or other financial and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Support with the investigation of any incorrect data and correcting journals that may be required.
- Support with the preparation and submission of Treasury accounting data required for the external audit.
Ad Hoc duties:
- Support the Group Tax Manager and / or Treasury Accountant as needed with project work.
- Cover or assist Treasury team colleagues as required when requested.
- Undertake relevant training and / or coaching (including participation in sector industry groups as appropriate) to ensure that personal knowledge, qualifications and skill base are kept current and relevant.
- Attend internal project group meetings / workshops to represent tax where deemed appropriate and requested.
