Whilst our 850 strong team of veterinary professionals are out in the field ensuring animal welfare standards are met within the UK and that the meat is safe to enter the food chain, we have a team of 60 Central Support heroes back at our Leeds head office that cover the central support functions.

We are looking for a Management Accountant working on a 12-month Fixed Term maternity cover to join our busy Finance Team.

About the Role:

We are looking for a hands-on qualified accountant to ensure that all management financial reporting and forecasting is accurate, insightful, and helps drive decision making at every level of the business.

Working in partnership with the Financial Accountant, you will manage a small team and will enjoy significant autonomy as you grow your team as the company continues to realise its expansion plans. The Management Accountant will report directly into the Finance Director.

What you will be doing:

This role will be key to the decision-making processes of the group, so you will have access to the Board and also our main customer, the Food Standards Agency.

You will:
  • Produce and comment on the monthly Management Accounts and KPIs
  • Investigate, challenge and explain financial variances from plan
  • Identify and analyse financial trends, understand the impact on the business and ensure that investment and operational decisions are data led
  • Focus on driving commercial reporting and holding departmental heads to account
  • Play an integral role in the preparation of the annual budget and regular forecasts (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash-Flow, KPI benchmarking)
  • Produce open book accounting reports for the Food standards agency
  • Assist with year end and the statutory audit process
  • Continually review compliance with internal financial controls, processes, and policy
  • Help build and develop a high performing finance team

Your qualifications and experience:

We are looking for someone who is a friendly, committed professional who wants to make a difference and enjoys working as a key member of a team.

You should also be/have:
  • CCAB qualified, preferably CIMA
  • Experienced in working within a group environment, preferably with multi-site operations
  • Strong organisational and management skills; able to prioritise work to meet deadlines with the ability to drive continuous improvement within their team
  • Inquisitive with a focus on the detail - taking the time to ensure the numbers are right
  • A team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Competent with Excel and have the ability to help drive improvements and efficiencies
  • A familiarity of Sage
  • The ability to accurately forecast and budget

This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week. Although primarily office based (LS15 8ZB), there will be some flexibility as to remote working.
