Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project has started construction and is now seeking private investment. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced SZC Site Delivery Finance Lead to join our team. This pivotal role supports the Site Delivery Team by providing comprehensive financial management, ensuring accurate reporting, and aligning financial strategies with project goals. You will play a crucial role in shaping the financial direction and ensuring the successful execution of the Sizewell C project, a major nuclear power plant development.
Our teams are set up to work flexibly, with a hybrid working approach between our offices and your home. We provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively.
The Role
You’ll report to SZC Finance Director providing senior finance business capability in supporting the Site Delivery Team. You’ll identify various programme requirements from HMG, investors, and other key external stakeholders and ensure their implementation across the Project, specifically aligning the Financing and Delivery Programmes roadmap. This includes ensuring cost control whilst powering delivery. You will be the senior business partner on financial performance and matters withing the Site Delivery team. This includes budgeting, monthly performance, commercial issues, and compliance with SZC governance. You will also have a key leadership role within the Finance community, being expected to role model our values and contribute to the development of others within the wider team.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Stewardship: Oversee financial performance, cost control, and cash flow, ensuring alignment with stakeholder expectations. Provide strong governance of the Site programmes/functions.
Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with the SZC Finance Director and SZC Executive Team to integrate financial analysis into business planning, shaping the strategic direction towards long-term financial objectives.
Stakeholder Management: Lead communications with the SZC Corporate functions, ensuring efficient and transparent information flow and serving as the senior point of contact for government and shareholders. This is combined with being a key member of the Site Delivery leadership team.
Financial Management: Connect financing and delivery functions to secure funding and cashflow within budget and timescales. Provide one version of the truth using SZC systems and tools.
Reporting and Compliance: Formalise and streamline reporting processes, ensuring consistency in external communications and compliance with regulatory requirements. This includes compliance within the RAB and Managing Public Money frameworks.
Leadership and Guidance: Provide strategic financial analytics to support senior leadership, promote a culture of cost consciousness, and influence commercial behaviour.
Project Integration: Work closely with the Commercial Team to review contracts, provide proactive challenges, and conduct monthly spend reviews. Identify external changes and challenges that may impact project delivery.
Requirements
Qualifications: Qualified accountant with a recognized UK Professional Organization (e.g., ACCA, ICAEW, ICAS, CIMA) or equivalent
Experience:
Proven leadership within a large/complex organisation.
Extensive experience in the construction industry, with a strong understanding of financial management in large-scale infrastructure projects.
Demonstrated ability in managing internal and external relationships, providing both support and challenge to business performance.
Skills:
Excellent relationship-building, influencing, negotiating, and communication skills.
Strategic problem-solving abilities with a strong commercial acumen.
Proficiency in financial processes and ability to adapt to changing market or regulatory conditions.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to prioritize business activities.
Knowledge of the latest industry trends and finance IT solutions.
