This is a unique opportunity to join Northern in a new role that will manage Financial Planning & Analysis; you’ll be at the front of financial support, offering a unique opportunity to effect change and impact what we do and how we do.

The Finance Team is transforming how we support our business. As the Financial Planning & Analysis Manager you’ll get a central view of the whole of Northern, handling the consolidation of financial results, budgets & forecasts to drive efficiencies, improve reporting processes and support continuous improvement. The quality and accuracy of your reporting and evaluation will ensure strategic decisions are made off the back of sound financial information, adding value to both the finance team and the wider business.

What you do will go beyond routine tasks; you’re setting the direction for our future financial practices. You’ll be at the forefront of managing stakeholder expectations whilst handling financial volumes, showcasing efficiency and attention to detail as our priority.

Innovation and continuous improvement are central to this position. You’ll be managing key financial duties such as budget and forecast consolidation, reporting improvements, and regulatory submissions. You’ll also collaborate with the Head of Financial Planning, creating strategic partnerships that cultivate a robust and efficient financial support system.

As the Financial Planning & Analysis Manager, be prepared for a multifaceted and demanding role. Here is a snapshot of what your day-to-day activities could include:

  • Consolidate accurate and timely financial information and KPIs each period-end
  • Consolidate and present detailed budgets and forecasts to The DfT / RNP
  • Direct on reporting improvements to reduce report production time across the financial planning team
  • Identify opportunities for efficiencies across the business through in-depth analysis to drive better decisions at senior levels within the business
  • Provide central support for the production of business cases for new management initiatives
  • Ensure timely and accurate submissions to regulatory bodies, including ONS, HMRC, and RDCO

About you:

You’ll be an essential part of the finance world. Your capacity to handle financial duties with efficiency and attention to detail is driven by a collaborative attitude that enables you to support at every level. This support extends beyond basic assistance, promoting operational efficiency and a smooth financial function through your excellent analytical and communication skills. Your flexible approach excels in managing core financial activities.

We’re also looking for the following:

  • A qualified ACA/CIMA/ACCA accountant
  • Experience in the provision and analysis of accurate, timely financial information
  • Highly motivated and flexible to work across a wide spectrum of financial activities
  • IT literate, able to use Excel with strong attention to detail
  • Strong team player and a good all-round communicator with solid verbal and written skills
  • Able to communicate effectively with different stakeholders and build good working relationships
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Able to juggle different priorities with good time management skills and an efficient approach to workloads
