The Finance Assistant has responsibility for the bookkeeping of Accounts Payable and assisting with Accounts Receivable for the Bromley by Bow Centre’s finance function and provides crucial support to the project managers and their teams who are critical in delivering our services.
The Finance Assistant also assists the Finance Officer, Head of Finance and the Director of Finance & Operations for the strategic financial management of the organisation and to enable the charity to fulfil its vision and mission.
Finance Assistant Responsibilities to include:
• Ensure that invoices are correctly authorised and posted to the ledger and suppliers are paid on agreed terms.
• Ensure prepaid and capital invoices are treated correctly.
• Ensure all DD/SO payments and associated invoices are posted as per deadline and reviewed periodically. Ensure all BACS payments and manual payments are processed on a fortnightly basis.
• Ensure creditor statement reconciliations are carried out upon receipt.
• Ensure invoices are raised from all Sales order requests and sent to customers.
• Ensure customer reconciliations are carried out upon request.
• Ensure all cash and cheques received are banked on a weekly basis.
• Ensure project managers are informed when income is received on a daily basis.
• Ensure bank transactions are posted on a daily basis.
• Ensure all DD/SO transactions are verified and posted on a daily basis.
Finance Assistant Requirements:
Essential Experience:
• Experience of working in Accounts Receivable & Payable function.
• Knowledge and understanding of accounting systems, preferably Sage package.
• Attention to detail.
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
• Team player & flexible.
• Experience with handling confidential information.
Desirable Experience:
• Studying towards a relevant Finance Qualification (i.e. AAT/ CIMA / ACCA etc.)
• Developing productive professional relationships with suppliers and stakeholders.
• Experience with month end tasks and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Experience of working with Payroll.
• Experience of assisting with audit.
• Experience of working in the voluntary sector.
• Proficient IT skills, including all Microsoft office packages.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

£20,000 to £24,000 per annum (Pro-rata £12,000 to £14,400 per annum)

Hours: 21 hours per week (3 days per week)
Holiday: 27 days + bank holidays and an extra day off for our birthday. Pro rata for short term and part time contracts.
