About the role
Welcome to Controllership - Fixed Assets - an exciting team at the heart of Boots UK’s reporting landscape. You will be responsible for the month end close and all fixed asset accounting across Boots UK.

You will report into the Head of Finance - Controllership - Operations; the main objective being the accurate and timely delivery of month end whilst adhering to monthly and quarterly Sox controls. There is also an opportunity to be involved in ad hoc projects working alongside finance and non-finance stakeholders across the business.

The team is part of the wider controllership team and has scope to be involved with wider opportunities such as Group Reporting. A strong relationship with the offshore team is also key for success.

  • Manage processes to inform business judgement around all capitalisation, depreciation, amortisation, write down and disposal of fixed assets.
  • Understand and assist in managing the interaction of fixed asset and lease accounting across the Boots business.
  • Assist senior management with processes around valuation and impairment reviews of tangible and intangible fixed assets.
  • Plan and manage annual asset verification processes.
  • Oversight, sign-off and offshore process liaison of month end, quarter end and year end closes.
  • Review and approve retained Boots elements of the close processes & results e.g. approval of journals and account reconciliations together with any necessary investigatory work.
  • Ensure adherence with policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for Boots review approval and sign off of relevant activities and controls performed by the offshore business process provider.
  • Champion the implementation of new WBA Global Finance processes and tools across Boots and the offshore team as appropriate in support of the wider finance transformation.
  • To provide accounting & control advice and guidance to the Finance partnering & FP&A teams as necessary.
  • To interact with other business processes and accountable teams to ensure all financial requirements are properly represented.


What you’ll need to have
  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)
  • Good knowledge of IFRS and US GAAP
  • Good communication skills - work and communicate effectively with key individuals across the business and feels comfortable in challenging the status quo
  • Experience dealing with auditors


It would be great if you also have
  • • Fixed asset accounting experience (both IFRS and US GAAP)
