About the Company:

Cigna are looking to recruit an Accounting Manager to be based within our European Finance Team which is based in Glasgow. This position manages a team of 3 Accountants that are based in Glasgow and India.

The Finance team services Business Units which operate in Europe with further offices and sales teams across in Asia and the Middle East. As part of this we have financial reporting responsibility for two Belgian Insurance companies and one UK Service Company. The principal responsibility of the Accounting Manager will be the supporting of the preparation of monthly management accounts for the Global Health Business (GHB) section of Cigna.

As Account Manager will also be supporting the quarterly and year end statutory and Head Office reporting (under Belgian GAAP, IFRS and US GAAP as appropriate). Close liaison with the teams in UK, India (Genpact), Madrid and Dubai will also be required with monthly reporting and ad hoc requests being a requirement.

This is a flexible hybrid working role, so you have best of both working models.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Responsible for the GHB accounting team supporting the following business entities.
  • Providing professional expertise and knowledge to support to a team of 3 accountants, in the areas of
  • Financial reporting
  • Resolution of problems
  • Technical accounting guidance in alignment with company policies, technical accounting guidance and statutory accounting requirements.
  • Provide ongoing to the Genpact team to ensure that the team has sufficient business and accounting knowledge to function effectively and provide support to the business.
  • Ensure that there is a high level of financial controls is maintained in GHB team in accordance with Cigna Accounting Policies, with a continual focus on strengthening control framework.
  • Key point of contact for all GHB accounting queries, including working a range of internal Cigna teams:
  • FP&A: MOR reporting and commentary
  • Statutory reporting Team: financial accounting and analysis of underlying transactions
  • Actuarial: Support in accounting for new products/ reserving changes
  • SLT: analysis supplied to support the business objectives.
  • Other Cigna finance teams including Middle East and Spain
  • Expense management: understand and challenge the underlying cost assumptions.
  • US Reporting: manage SOX reporting process and ad hoc queries.
  • External and Internal auditing
  • Undertaking analysis of complex financial transactions to understand the impact and identify and resolve any reconciling difference.
  • Work with systems accounting team to map new processes and work out the information and financial flows to ensure that the information is correctly reflect in the financial leger and is reconciled to the core systems.
  • Focus on continual process improvement and efficiencies with the team and process.

EXPERINCE REQUIRED
  • Qualified Accountant
  • Accountant preferable with experience in insurance and within an international environment is advantageous.
  • Strong stakeholder and business partnering experience.
  • Experience of monthly accounting close process in a fast-paced environment
  • US and Belgian GAAP knowledge desirable although not essential
  • Able to adapt quickly and effectively to a rapidly changing business model.
  • Focus on strong control environment and experience of balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Experience of Oracle or similar General Ledger packages
  • Strong excel and general PC skills are essential with some experience of Data Management type packages.
  • FX and Alteryx experience desirable but not essential
