Permanent vacancy - Payroll Specialist
Salary - DOE
Location - Port Glasgow
Working days - Monday to Friday
Working hours - Monday - Thursday 8.30am - 5pm and Friday 8.30am - 1.15pm
Our client based in Port Glasgow, are looking for a Payroll Clerk to join their busy office. Due to company growth this is a new position. We are looking for someone who as previous experience payroll and also some exposure to HR/Payroll related duties.
You will be responsible for managing and processing payroll activities accurately and efficiently. To ensure timely payment of salaries, wages, and benefits to employees while complying with legal and regulatory requirements. Please read below for more information.......
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing:
* Process payroll accurately and on time, including salaries, wages, bonuses, and benefits
* Verify timesheets, attendance records, and other relevant data to ensure accuracy
* Calculate deductions for taxes, National Insurance contributions, pensions, and other statutory deductions
* Process adjustments, such as overtime, bonuses, or deductions for absences
* Handle complex payroll situations, including variable pay and deductions
Benefit Administration:
* Administer employee benefits, including pensions, health insurance, and other voluntary deductions
* Ensure accurate calculation and processing of benefits, such as sick pay, maternity/paternity pay, and holiday pay
* Handle queries from employees regarding their pay and benefits
Recordkeeping and Reporting:
* Maintain accurate payroll records, including employee data, salary information, and tax declarations
* Generate and distribute payslips to employees in a timely manner
* Prepare payroll reports for management, finance, and auditing purposes
Compliance and Legislation:
* Stay up-to-date with UK payroll legislation, including tax laws, National Insurance regulations, and pension requirements
* Ensure compliance with GDPR and other data protection regulations when handling sensitive payroll information
* Prepare and submit statutory reports, such as PAYE, P60s, P11Ds, and Real Time Information (RTI) submissions
* Liaise with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) and other relevant authorities as necessary
Systems Management:
* Utilise payroll software effectively to process payroll and generate reports
* Troubleshoot payroll system issues and liaise with IT support or software vendors for resolutions
* Implement system updates and upgrades as required
Skills and Qualifications:
* Previous experience in payroll processing
* Knowledge: In-depth understanding of UK payroll legislation, taxation, and National Insurance
* Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., Sage, ADP, or similar) and MS Office, especially Excel
* Ability to analyse complex payroll data and resolve discrepancies
* Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to ensure accuracy in calculations and data entry
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain payroll processes to employees
* Ability to identify and resolve payroll-related issues efficiently
* Capacity to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively
* Confidentiality: Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity when handling sensitive payroll information
Qualification
A degree or equivalent qualification in accounting, finance, HR, or a related field is desirable.
Professional certifications such as the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) qualification are advantageous.
Ongoing training and professional development to stay updated with changes in payroll legislation and best practices are recommended.
