This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a developing team, by increasing business opportunities, identify new business avenues, to work and grow existing clients with the aim to onboard new business and to lead and support in the development of the business plan to identify areas of growth at the same time.

Were seeking a talented individual to join our public sector team as an assistant manager in Edenbridge which is responsible for VAT compliance and advisory services for a wide range of Public Sector Clients. The primary responsibility will be to deal with all matters relating to the management of a portfolio of clients. You will also provide assistance primarily to Managers and Senior Managers in supporting with the delivery of client work. You will be involved in special assignments and advisory projects on an ad hoc basis.

As an Assistant VAT manager, your responsibilities will include among others:

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake ad-hoc Audit work & Consultancy work
  • Drive the delivery of audit and compliance services on a day to day basis
  • Demonstrate an ability to manage client accounts and relationships
  • Give exceptional client service and be responsible for maintaining regular contact with client team
  • Need to keep up to date technically
  • Budgeting and monitoring compliance fees
  • Liaison with more senior members of the team, including Partners and Directors where required
  • Appraisals/monitor staff performance
  • On the job training/mentoring for junior staff & recruitment on a one-to-one basis, including technical and procedural matters
  • Dealing with staff questions
  • Ensuring procedures are followed taking account of institute and HMRC guidance, where relevant
  • Ensuring department billing and recovery targets are met
  • Awareness/interest in what other parts of the firm can do, to encourage cross-referrals
  • Support the team, as required, in any marketing and business development activities & webinars

Key Skills and Experience:
  • Relevant VAT experience gained within the profession or industry
  • Technically capable VAT adviser who is able to assist in complex client work
  • Exemplary organisational and communication skills
  • Keen to learn more and expand technical knowledge
  • Strong IT skills including practical knowledge of Microsoft Office packages; Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Starting to gain staff management/mentoring/supervisory experience
  • Ability to motivate staff to ensure best performance.
  • Demonstrable ability to organise self and others, such that you can work on several different assignments at one time.
  • Strong communication skills in order to liaise with clients, directors, staff and other professionals.
  • Demonstrable experience of supervising others and delegation of work.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing people
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Evidence of managing a small client portfolio
