The role/te mahi

Working alongside our experienced Payroll Manager and broader team, this role will be suited to someone with end-to-end payroll experience, including supervising or leading others.

You will enjoy leading a small processing team on a journey to build capability and enhance services. Delivering great customer service, identifying and implementing improvements, communicating with a broad range of stakeholders across the university, in a future focused technology-based environment, are all part of the role.

Some primary responsibilities will include:
  • Leading and developing a small processing team and supporting the Payroll Manager and Team Leader Input.
  • Ensuring the accurate processing of the fortnightly pay cycle, including payday filing and reconciliations.
  • Providing expertise and resolving issues in a timely manner.
  • Identifying opportunities to continuously improve processes and services, including via analysing payroll data.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with a strong desire to enhance team capabilities, implement new processes and ways of working, and adapt to new technologies.

Key skills required to perform in this role include:
  • Strong organisational skills: ability to prioritise and manage work with high attention to detail.
  • Proven experience in a busy and/or complex modern payroll environment.
  • Sound leadership, change, and continuous improvement experience.
  • Ability to deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound analytical skills.
  • Exercise confidentiality, discretion, and sound judgement always.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft suite of programmes.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours), permanent role located in Ōtepoti (Dunedin).
