Fletcher Wood Products (FWP), a newly established entity within the Building Products division of Fletcher Building (FB), marks FB's strategic re-entry into the wood sector. Our initiative is driven by strong macro trends and aligns with New Zealand's goal of fostering a low-carbon circular economy.

FWP currently oversees sawmilling operations in Waipapa, producing a diverse range of industrial and structural sawn timber and a renewable fuels business. Additionally, we are in the process of constructing and delivering an advanced wood panel production plant in Taupo for Laminex NZ. Over time, the scope and responsibility of the role may grow as the Wood Product Business scales up via organic growth and strategic acquisition.

About the Role:

We are seeking a seasoned finance and commercial professional to join our team as Commercial Manager. This Auckland based role reports to the Divisional CFO and involves close collaboration with the General Manager.

Your primary responsibilities will include:
  • Providing financial and commercial leadership to the Wood Products senior leadership team (SLT).
  • Business Partnering and decision support for the wider business including oversight of the construction and delivery of the Laminex Wood Panels plant in Taupo.
  • Ensuring alignment with capital targets.
  • Overseeing financial control and risk management activities.
  • To excel in this role, you will need to structure and resource the finance and commercial team effectively, and establish robust risk management and cashflow forecasting processes.

Key skills and experience we are looking for include:
  • Extensive experience in strategic planning, financial and commercial management with a detailed understanding of key value levers in a business.
  • Proven track record in large-scale manufacturing or related industries.
  • Demonstrates strong continuous performance improvement focus
  • Leadership and development of finance teams.
  • Proven experience in managing relationships and developing and maintaining personal credibility with senior stakeholders.
  • Decision support and business improvement experience within complex environments.
  • A strong business partnering mindset with a commitment to exceeding stakeholder expectations.

  • Bachelor Business/Commerce in Accounting. Accounting qualification (CA or CIMA preferred).
  • 8+ years of experience in commercial/financial management roles.
  • Proficiency in applying critical thinking and analysis to business processes.
  • A sound knowledge of Excel and financial modelling, as well as Powerpoint, is essential.
