Your new company
Hays are working exclusively with a successful business in Shrewsbury who are looking for an experienced Assistant accountant to join their team to cover maternity leave for 9 - 12 month.

Your new role
You will be working closely with the Financial Controller and duties will include:


    • Assisting the Financial Controller in day to day operations as required
    • Point of contact for the Finance Department
    • Assist with Month End Accounts preparation, to include Stock Reporting and Reconciliations, Fixed Asset Register and Depreciation, Accruals, Prepayments and journal postings
    • Ownership of Month End Accounts and Budgeting process for one division, for review by the Financial Controller
    • Monthly Bank Reconciliations for all bank accounts, including multi bank, multi company and multi-currency
    • Monthly Balance Sheet Reconciliations
    • VAT knowledge, including EU and non-EU transactions, VAT Returns, Plastic Packaging Tax
    • Importing knowledge, including import paperwork, deferment account, freight invoices and landed costs
    • Customer, Supplier & Ship-through/Price Support rebate tracking and claiming
    • Compliance of waste regulations, including annual Paperpak Packaging Waste submission, Quarterly WEEE submission and Battery Producer submission
    • Weekly Cash Flow update
    • Credit Control for one smaller division
    • Fortnightly Stock Checks
    • To provide cover for Purchase Ledger, and be main point of contact for queries
    • To provide cover for daily invoice generation, and other Sales Ledger duties


What you'll need to succeed
You should be an experienced Assistant Accountant who is a motivated, self-starter who can operate with minimum supervision. You require a good working knowledge of accounting systems and Excel and the ability to use own initiative to improve processes and the confidence to suggest alternative more efficient methodsYou should be a keen learner with the ability to see the bigger picture and have excellent communications and interpersonal skills
