What you will do in your working day
Your day to day duties will include:
  • Supporting with Credit control and chasing late payments
  • Monitoring daily communications and answering any queries via email and telephone
  • Posting and recording cash received on the sales ledger
  • Updating and checking invoices printed
  • Raising invoices for sale of assets, stock, and miscellaneous sales
  • Inputting purchase ledger invoices, credit notes, debit notes etc onto the computer system
  • Matching supplier invoices to purchase orders and delivery notes
  • Approving for payment authorised invoices, credit notes, debit notes etc
  • Reconciling suppliers’ balances with suppliers’ statements
  • Setting up new accounts and amending existing accounts on the sales and purchase ledgers
  • Supporting month-end duties by assisting with updating and reconciling the financial ledgers
  • General administration duties to include filing and sending emails.
  • Any other duties as required by the Management Accountant

We would also consider applicants who have achieved Level 2 AAT and support them on the Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship.

This opportunity is available to start immediately or after completing your studies at school or college.
The training you will be getting
The Accounts/Finance Assistant is responsible for assisting the team of accountants with accounting duties. These can vary massively depending on the team structure and size of business.

An Accounts/Finance Assistant’s work could include basic bookkeeping activities, working with sales and purchase ledgers, running calculations to ensure that records and payments are correct, recording of cash and data entry.

Accounts/Finance Assistants can work in almost any sector. Potential employers include corporate businesses, sole traders, partnerships, Public Sector, not-for-profit organisations and educational institutions. Accounts/Finance Assistants may work inhouse for an organisation or they might work for accountancy firm, bookkeeping practice, Shared Service provider, self-employed or on behalf of several different clients.

You will also complete the industry recognised AAT (Association of Accounting Technician) Certificate in Accounting Level 2 as part of this apprenticeship standard.

This qualification comprises four mandatory units:
  • Introduction to Bookkeeping
  • Principles of Bookkeeping Controls
  • Principles of Costing
  • The Business Environment

The duration of the apprenticeship is 15 months; to allow confirmation of successful examination results/re-sits as well as completion of the required End Point Assessment.

The two End Point Assessment methods are:

1. Structured interview (supported by a portfolio of evidence summary) will cover the following: Teamwork, Professionalism, Customer focus, Ethical standards, General business, understanding your organisation, Personal effectiveness, Communication, Personal development and Uses systems and processes

2. In-tray test will involve the following - Accounting systems and processes, Basic accounting and Attention to detail

Both assessment methods will be conducted and graded by an independent End Point Assessment Organisation.

Attendance to taught classes is required, one day per week on a Friday; the class start in September 2024.
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
  • Opportunity to join the company as a full-time permanent employee, upon completion of apprenticeship.
  • Progression to higher level apprenticship folllowing successful employment and achievement of Level 2 AAT.
