Role and Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this position is to maintain an effective fish accounting system.

Specific duties include:

* Accurate and timely preparation of fish data and electronic reporting of data.
* Maintain the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Alaska Groundfish and Alaska State Fish and Game logs for daily and weekly production and the transfer of product information in an up-to-date and accurate manner. Complete electronic landings for Crab deliveries. Maintain fishing vessels catch records as needed.
* Complete fish tickets for each fishing vessel delivery with required information. Obtain signatures, permit, and statistical information on each delivery from fishing vessel skipper.
* Prepare crew draws and purchase orders as requested within policy requirements. Record daily fishing vessel charges, crew draws, and invoices. Communicate this information with the Seattle office in a timely manner.
* Prepare accounts payable invoices by verifying that invoices are authorized to be paid, check for missing and incorrect invoices, and assign the proper general ledger account number to the invoices. Process the accounts payable invoices on a timely basis, maximizing discounts, and monitoring due dates.
* This position will have considerable contact with management staff, General Manager and foremen, fishing vessel skippers, office personnel, and general contact with employees and the public.
* Prepare Fish Tickets for ADF&G.
* Strong communication with ADF&G, NOASS Agents, Seattle staff.
* Resolve issues involving fish tickets, landings, price, pounds, etc.
* Complete vessel transaction logs.
* Weekly reporting to management to on product details.
* Communication with F/V book keepers (statements, permit info, settlements, crew checks, etc.)
* Prepare and distribute F/V checks and petty cash checks.
* Call in to NMFS Halibut and Sable landings
* F/V Settlements.
* Permit holder payments.
* Back up to reception
* Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

* Completion or equivalent of a two (2) year accounting program or related computer/accounting experience.
* Working knowledge of computer systems/programs such as Excel, and business accounting principles and practices that relate to the fishing industry.
* Skill in use of data entry terminal, calculator, typewriter, and other office equipment.
* Ability to effectively manage workload.
* Ability to communicate, be informative, give feedback, and keep supervisor informed of unusual operating occurrences and other problems as they arise.
* Ability to function as part of the team, with co-workers, supervisor, and other departments.


STARTING WAGE: DOE STATUS: Non-Exempt Regular - Housing, Meals, Transportation to/from Point of Hire - Medical, PTO, and 401(k) benefits upon eligibility.

* Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
* First ninety (90) days of employment is considered Probationary.
* Must be able to read, write and speak English, and possess the ability to follow both verbal and written instructions.
