The CFO is responsible for the financial strategy, sustainability and overall financial health of the school. This includes overseeing all financial operations, managing the financial planning and analysis processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, developing strategies for, and implementing, revenue generating commercial activities generation and overall cost management. The CFO will collaborate with, and support, the Advancement Director, the College Executive Committee and the College community to support the College's mission, commercial and strategic objectives.

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for the overall financial strategy, sustainability, and health of the school. Their key responsibilities include:

Financial Management:
  • Oversee the preparation and execution of the college's budget, including capital expenditures and cash flow forecasting.
  • Ensure robust accounting systems and financial governance policies are in place.
  • Manage and oversee the finance team, including the Financial Manager, to ensure accountability, efficiency, and effective financial operations.
  • Prepare timely financial reports and statements for the Headmaster and College Council.
  • Develop and implement long-term financial strategies to ensure the college's financial sustainability and growth.
  • Conduct regular financial analysis and forecasting to support strategic decision-making and risk management.

Revenue Generation and Commercial Activities:
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for revenue generation through asset utilization, fundraising, and partnerships.
  • Work closely with the Advancement Director to develop and implement strategic fundraising plans.
  • Oversee the management of commercial leases, property development, and other revenue-generating initiatives.
  • Explore and establish new commercial opportunities aligned with the college's objectives.

Governance and Administration:
  • Serve as a key member of the College Executive Committee, providing strategic financial input.
  • Act as a voting member of the College Council and participate in various committees.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and standards, including IFRS and ISASA-specific guidelines.
  • Oversee the management of the IT department and ensure effective use of technology in financial operations.

Human Resources:
  • Supervise the Human Resource Manager and ensure HR strategies align with the college's business objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations, manage employee relations, and oversee HR operations.
  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures that support the school's strategic goals.

Strategic Planning:
  • Collaborate with the College Executive Committee to develop and implement the college's strategic plan.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support the college's strategic initiatives and long-term goals.
  • Lead the financial planning process, including the development of long-term financial projections and scenario analysis.

Align financial strategies with the ISASA curriculum and educational framework.
The ideal candidate for the CFO role should have a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field, with a preference for a master's degree or professional certification. They should have a minimum of 10 years of financial management experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role. The CFO should possess strong financial acumen, strategic thinking, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as proficiency in financial software and technology.
