ACCOUNTANT-SENIOR

FUNCTION DESCRIPTION:

Develops, interprets, and implements highly complex financial/accounting concepts and advanced techniques for financial planning and control. Provides expert advisory capability and interpretation on all levels of financial activity. Plans, coordinates and executes policy implementation applicable to the installation of improved financial operations. Provides specialized technical analysis to determine present and future financial performance. Directs the development and implementation of new concepts and techniques for financial information analysis. Coordinates with all levels of management, within and outside the Credit Union, to gather, analyze, summarize, and prepare recommendations regarding financial plans, acquisition activity, trended future requirements, operating forecasts and similar complex financial matters. Evaluates and analyzes standard capital expenditure proposals, operating records, and financial statements. Assists in the preparation of special studies, reports, analyses, and recommendations in areas such as budgets, forecasts, and statistical reports.

Provides support to Director of Accounting by performing tasks related to regular department processes, resolving general ledger account reconciliation issues, meeting department goals and training and development of other department employees. May act as a liaison between department employees and Director communicating department issues and progress and may take on some Director responsibilities in the absence of the Director. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels with employees and managers of other departments regarding department issues. Demonstrates strong leadership skills and a commitment toward giving quality service and achieving corporate, department and individual goals.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to: Vice President and Controller

Supervises: None

Contacts: Internal staff, managers, executive staff, auditors, examiners, other financial institutions, vendors, suppliers, service providers, limited member contact.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Education: B.S. in Accounting or Finance. Advanced knowledge of financial accounting theory, principals, practices and concepts.

Experience: Minimum 5 years finance or accounting experience, preferably with a financial institution. CPA and/or MBA could be substituted for year of experience.

Skills: Manual dexterity to input data on keyboard; i.e. computer, calculator (10 key by touch), telephone, PC, typewriter
Visual ability to interpret data from terminal screen or written documents
Knowledge of PC programs, including accounting software, Excel, Word, and mainframe systems
Ability to work independently without supervision
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent people skills
A high level of professional maturity and demeanor
Strong ability to actively listen, assimilate, and follow through on the needs of other employees, departments, and vendors, in person, by phone, or through written communication

Equipment: PC, calculator, terminal, fax, telephone, copier, printer, typewriter, microfiche/film viewer/printer

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Provides a valuable and enjoyable experience to both internal customers and members during interactions. Consistently suggests ways to improve the member/customer experience through improved processes and technology.

2. Responsible for the department's most complex accounting processes and reconciliations.

3. Performs a variety of repetitive and non-repetitive detail orientated accounting duties under minimal supervision.

4. Assists in the preparation of financial statements, including preparing adjusting and closing entries, researching and correcting unusual variances, inputting actual data, and assuring the validity of the completed statements.

5. Gathers information and completes various reports for internal purposes, regulatory agencies and vendors.

6. Develops, interprets and implements complex financial/accounting concepts and advanced techniques for financial planning and control.

7. Recognizes processes needing improvement and makes appropriate improvements or recommendations.

8. Acts as a team leader on special projects within the department and or as a team member on organization wide projects.

9. Assists department Director in analyzing operational workflow and implementation of changes.

10. May act as a department lead: managing and directing other department members, assisting in their training and development, and participating in the performance appraisal process.

11. May assist in preparation of annual budget.

12. Regular and punctual attendance.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Maintains appropriate files for reports and analysis.

2. Gathers information from and distributes information to other departments.

Management retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Office environment.
Mobility to move throughout department and corporate offices.
May necessitate travel to off-site offices or training
