What you’ll be doing

We’re looking for a Financial Operations Accountant to work closely with our Head of Finance & Head of Financial Operations to join our small but mighty Finance team. The role will be part of a growing finance team that will evolve over the coming years as Cleo expands and comes with opportunities to develop and be exposed to other areas of the finance team in the future.

We’re building a world-class, data-driven and tech-focused Finance team. You will be very much hands-on and responsible for reconciling and reporting on our loan book and warehouse facility, global payroll operations, day-to-day management of equity and other operational activities. Strong attention to detail with good analytical skills will be key for success in the role.

The Financial Operations Accountant is expected to collaborate with colleagues across the wider Finance Department, and the Commercial and Product teams to drive forward enhancements to our financial capabilities, reporting and decision-making.

Some of the things you'll get involved with:
  • Reconciling and reporting our loan book and new warehouse facility to relevant 3rd party stakeholders
  • Ensure that all global payrolls are processed accurately and on a timely basis
  • Take ownership of the payroll process by suggesting process improvements and ensuring compliance with relevant authorities
  • Responsible for day-to-day operations of the equity and options scheme along with the related financial reporting
  • Review of the pension scheme and ownership of compliance and reporting
  • Ensure that the impact of new systems, processes, or initiatives are appropriately considered and incorporated into existing reporting and controls environment
  • Lead and assist with ad hoc projects
  • Leading projects to develop and future-proof the finance function; exploring new tools and ways to automate manual processes

What are we looking for?
  • Recently Qualified Accountant (CIMA / ACCA or equivalent)
  • You have experience in processing and managing payrolls from a finance perspective
  • Strong Excel skills
  • You can quickly pick up new concepts, and dive into a problem with a solutions-oriented, outcome-focused mindset - even with no prior background in the subject matter
  • A get sh*t done mindset; you’re comfortable rolling up your sleeves and diving into financial data to deliver at pace with limited resources
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical capabilities, and the ability to develop creative solutions for challenging, open-ended problems

Nice to have:
  • A passion for or previous experience in the Fintech sector
  • Xero and SQL experience

What do you get for all your hard work?
  • A competitive compensation package (base + equity) with reviews every 8 months. You can view our public progression framework and salary bandings here: - This position is an F2-F3 level and we can pay £45-55k p.a depending on experience.
  • Work at one of the fastest-growing tech startups, backed by top VC firms like Sofina, Balderton & EQT Ventures.
  • A clear progression plan. We want you to keep growing. That means trying new things, leading others, challenging the status quo and owning your impact. Always with our complete support.
  • Flexibility: We treat you as humans first, employees second. Because we can’t fight for the world’s financial health, if we’re not healthy ourselves. This means all the usual perks but it also means flexibility. We take pride in being a flexible workplace that trusts our Cleople to deliver their best work, giving you the autonomy to structure your day around morning drop-offs to school or daily dog walks.
  • Hybrid-first: Join our hybrid-first team, where we blend the best of both remote and in-office work. We expect our team members to be in our London office 1-2 times a week. On Thursdays, we buy you lunch but you can come to the office on whichever days work best for you!

      • Equity top-ups for team members getting promoted
