Mō te tūnga | About the role
You will be responsible for providing financial advice and information relating to NZDF's strategic issues and supporting planning and budgeting activities. You will be the subject matter expert with a primary focus on financial support for organisational budgets and funding.
You will:

* Co-ordinate external Budget processes and provide analysis and support.
* Provide consistent financial support to understanding funding positions and organisational costs.
* Provide financial modelling and costing to inform decision making.
* Translate technical advice from specialists in the acquisition, operation and maintenance of military capabilities and organisational enablers into financial impacts.
* Have opportunities to initiate, lead or participate in business improvement projects.

This role is based in Wellington CBD. Once you have undergone training and are up to speed, flexible working options are negotiable. You will be required to work primarily from the office.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience
You will have a deep understanding and practical experience in life-cycle costing, financial modelling, and valuation techniques (economic, actuarial, and/or statistical). You will be able to demonstrate conceptual thinking and use your initiative to solve problems.
You will have:

* Five or more years of practical experience in a financial modelling, cost modelling or other relevant role in a large, capital intensive organisation.
* In-depth experience with building templates, and financial forecasting models for different organisational scenarios and applying best practice techniques including quality assurance processes and costing summaries.
* Demonstrated abilityto communicate technical financial information effectively to non-financial audiences, orally and in writing.
* High level computer literacy with advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel including experience working with large data sets, Power Query, Power Pivot, and Power BI applications.
* Experience contributing to Cabinet Papers, Budget Bids, and Senior Stakeholder presentations is advantageous but not essential.

* is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
