Mō te tūnga | About the role
As part of the Human Resources Service Centre (HRSC), the Payroll team is responsible and accountable for delivering accurate and timely payroll functions for the NZDF.
As the Payroll Manager, you'll be responsible for leadership, management and the daily operations of the Payroll teams. This includes three distinct payroll teams that process pay runs on alternating weeks for our military & civilian personnel onshore and overseas.
You'll effectively manage the team resources and be responsible for meeting and setting customer service targets as well as planning areas for improvements or development, setting activity plans and reporting.
This role is based in Trentham. Once you have undergone training and are up to speed, there is the option of working from home up to 2 days a week.

We're looking a Payroll Manager with an extensive background in payroll operations and people management. You'll have demonstrated skills in successfully leading and managing sizable payroll teams in a developing and change-focused environment, preferably in the local or central Government sector.
Your refined leadership skills will harbor the promotion of an effective team culture to maintain high performance and outputs from team members, with providing a superior service experience with both high accuracy and timely delivery at the forefront.
You'll bring:

* Knowledge in payroll practice and policy.
* Sound knowledge of relevant government legislation and other compliance implications.
* Risk management and analysis skills.
* Strong commitment to relationship building.

Experience with SAP Payroll and NZPPA qualifications would be advantageous to your success in this key role.

* is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
