The Whitsunday Regional Council is situated at the heart of the Great Barrier Reef. The region encompasses the 74 tropical Whitsunday Islands, the coastal towns of Cannonvale, Airlie Beach, Jubilee Pocket, Shute Harbour and Bowen along with the rural towns of Proserpine and Collinsville. The Role

An exciting opportunity exists within our Corporate Services directorate for a Management Accountant . In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring a high level of analysis, business performance reporting, provide technical advice, business partnering both internal and external clients, ensuring the integrity of the finance system information and contributing to Council's compliance with legislation and account standards.

  • C Class drivers licence
  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Accounting, or other areas relevant to the position.
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role within a complex environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in using an integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as Technology One.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills, with strong problem solving and attention to detail.
  • Self motivated and well developed planning and organisational skills with the ability to work independently, work on multiple tasks, determine priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Sound presentation and interpersonal skills with well developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated high level computer literacy, with the ability to utilise financial, records management, and Microsoft Suite of programs to review and implement improvements to business and performance reporting processes.
  • Thorough understanding of relevant finance standards, statutory accounting and budget development requirements in Local Government.

  • Previous experience in a Local Government environment highly regarded.
  • High level of experience with Microsoft products including power enquiries, power BI and SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of the Local Government Act 2009, Local Government Regulations 2012 and relevant AASB Accounting Standards.
