Your Opportunity

One Permanent Full Time Position.   

Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join our dynamic finance team in Midland, Michigan!

Reporting to the Director of Treasury & Risk Management, as the Revenue accountant you will be responsible for activities related to revenue transactions at our Midland Cogeneration Venture Plant (MCV). This will include daily database management, revenue processing, monthly invoicing, journal entries, and account reconcilements. You will be responsible to ensure accurate and timely invoices are issued according to complex contract terms and procedural requirements.

You will contribute to our team by

  • Performing all revenue accounting activities including preparation of journal entries, invoices, and account reconcilements.


  • Maintaining daily commercial and operational data required for revenue transactions.


  • Preparing weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue analytics to assist with budgetary variance analysis and forecasting future trends. Confirms data required for regulatory filings.


  • Participating in complex accounting/finance projects (when required) managing or contributing to sections of the project that may include reporting output or findings to a project owner. 


  • Providing input for new/improved approaches to work.


  • Serving as departmental subject matter expert for revenue database, ensuring proper functionality and results and assisting with database enhancements to improved functionality/efficiency.


  • Providing input and recommendations on ways to optimize processes, timelines, and flow of information to ensure timely delivery of accurate information while realizing efficiency and best use of resources.


  • Optimizing process, timeline, and flow of information


  • Maintaining well-defined checks and balances to ensure accurate work product.


  • Establishing controls related to areas of responsibility and ensures that the controls are operating effectively.


  • Maintaining procedural and compliance documents.


  • Researching and resolve accounting complex accounting issues. 


  • Maintaining a good rapport with cross-discipline internal and external contacts.


  • Having a collaborative approach to working with cross-functional team members to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies in data required in revenue calculations.


  • Maintaining good working relationships with customers and demonstrating professionalism when resolving disputes.


  • Working with the external audit team.


  • Completing other general accounting activities as assigned.


What you will bring to the role  




  • Completed bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.


  • Completion of a professional accounting designation (CPA) is preferred.


  • Education equivalency may be considered.




  • 2 to 5 years of related experience.


Technical Skills:


  • Understanding of supplier contracts and operating practices that govern revenue transactions.


  • Ability to communicate and work effectively at all levels of the organization. 


  • High attention to detail.


  • Planning and analytical skills.


  • Advanced competencies with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.


  • Experience with Oracle is an asset.


Working Conditions:


  • Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with possible very minimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.


Additional Details


The pay range for this position is $91,350 to $105,560. The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications and prior relevant experience. This position is eligible for health care benefits, retirement benefits, paid time off, and annual bonus.


Clearance of Credit check is required for this position.
