Reporting directly to Remuneration and Reporting Manager, this role involves successfully leading a professional payroll team to ensure delivery of a compliant internal and external payroll service fortnightly.
A large, well-known organisation has an opportunity for an individual to lead and manage the performance of the payroll team to ensure all team members are successfully trained, motivated, and performing effectively.
About the role:
This position holds a critical leadership role within the People and Culture department of this highly regarded institute and will encompass leading a payroll team to provide an accurate and timely payroll service. This individual will report to the Remuneration and Reporting Manager and will focus on ensuring the payroll team members are motivated and successful.
The position will require current knowledge of applicable legislation and contractual requirements, and the ability to conduct risk analysis and subsequent strategy development.
Key Responsibilities:

Ensures payroll services for all employees are completed in an accurate and timely manner each fortnight
Conducts risk identification and management, develop risk mitigation strategies and ensure compliance requirements are operating effectively
Responsible for sign-off of all pay run activity
Provides team leadership and ensure all team members are fully trained, legislatively knowledgeable, and motivated to succeed. Identify and develop strategies for areas of improvement within the team
Maintains and monitors the effective operation of the team operations, people and processes
Leads the development of the payroll function within the organisation, including business improvement and process change initiatives
Keep updated on current legislative processes, ensure the understanding of the team and advise on any changes
Ensures all documents are retained to meet information management requirements
Ensures own and others health and safety is maintained at all times, and takes action to minimise risk

Key Requirements:

A relevant tertiary qualification is desirable
Management experience is essential. Must have 3 to 5 years of experience managing a payroll team or equivalent
Extensive knowledge and interpretation of payroll legislation with experience in interpreting and implementing relevant legislation and contractual terms
Experience developing, implementing, and applying quality assurance methods
Experience in providing customer service and advice and providing leadership to a team
Identification and implementation of continuous improvement
Establishment and maintenance of stakeholder engagement
