PURPOSE:
The staff accountant position will assist the controller with the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards. Primary responsibilities include the monthly close process, collection of accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, monthly reporting, assist in the annual preparation of a budget, assist in the preparation of the annual tax return preparation and all treasury administration. The Staff Accountant will also be part of a team that creates and implements policies and procedures to identify, resolve and document accounting issues in addition to creating procedures to make the close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate and manage personnel issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable
  • Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly
  • Process payroll in a timely manner
  • Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed
  • Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis
  • Assist in maintaining the chart of accounts
  • Assist in maintaining an orderly accounting filing system
  • Assist in maintaining a system of controls over accounting transactions
  • Assist in the issue of timely and complete financial statements
  • Assist with calculating and issuing financial and operating metrics
  • Assist with the production of the annual budget and forecasts
  • Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
  • Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
  • Manage the 401K plan for the company
  • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditor's audits
  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Extensive use of computers and computer programs including but not limited to Excel, Word and other Microsoft Office Programs
  • Establish a good communication and working rapport with accounting department, customer service, sales personnel and manufacturing personnel
  • Understand Douglas products and the mechanical applications in which they are used
  • Apply verbal and written communication skills to internal and external customers
  • Continually exhibit the qualities of trustworthiness, a strong work ethic, and positive attitude
  • Manage and organize own work while remaining a team player
  • Continually participate in additional training related to the job
  • Perform extra assignments in other areas and related task assignments
  • Regular, consistent attendance, available to deal with daily issues during normal business hours, odd or extra hours will be required as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Combination of Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in accounting from an accredited four-year college or university and 5 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Background, DMV and credit checks may be conducted on the employee as a condition of employment and continued employment. A clean credit history is required for this position.

  • Conscientious about timeliness of assignments and quality of work product
  • Accountable for specific performance
  • Possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including ability to articulate recommendations in a concise and timely manner
  • Able to handle multiple tasks and maintain control and order over same
  • Good GAAP and financial reporting technical skills
  • Exceptional work ethic

REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • 5+ years of Accounting/Controlling Experience
  • High level of expertise in Excel (including pivot tables and linking worksheets)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings periodically

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Work is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to, sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.
