Position Summary

Responsible for the processing and audit of payroll for various hourly and salaried groups. This includes timely and accurate processing and transmission of payroll data for the company, maintenance of payroll files and correspondence with internal and external stakeholders on payroll inquiries.

Supervisor Responsibilities

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities over other employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Verify accuracy of timecards/timesheets, in accordance with company policies.
  • Ensure timecards/timesheets are input in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Complete pre-payroll validations and post payroll reconciliations to support audit controls.
  • Process weekly hours and earnings data in Ceridian payroll system including garnishments, benefits, taxes, bonus payments, etc.


Timely reconciliation and payment of all statutory taxes, garnishees, and benefitsComplete ad hoc off-cycle/check payments to employees where applicableEnsure that the processing of new hires, temporary workers, transfers, promotions and terminations is accurate, timely and consistent.Process 401(k) contributions and loans.Audit W-4s, payroll balance sheets, YTD earnings, etc.Communicate actively with HR, Finance and Accounting to review cross-departmental impacts and reconcile data sharing.Ensure systems are set up and maintained to reflect our current employee base, including wages, benefits, sick and vacation time in line with contracts (union and non-union).Manage regular preparation of relevant management reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.).Answer payroll related inquiries from management and employees in a positive, courteous and prompt manner.Analyze, evaluate and makes decisions on payroll actions.Always maintain confidentiality of information.Ability to work overtime as required.

Typical Physical Demands

Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires constant data input for extended periods of time without leaving the work area. Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds.

Typical Working Conditions

Normal office environment. Occasional evening or weekend work.

Education and Experience
  • Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or minimum 4 years of related experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
  • 2 years documented and ongoing payroll processing experience; preferably in a multi-state company.
  • Experience with Ceridian preferred.
  • Practical knowledge of general payroll policy, government regulations and tax requirements.
  • Solid knowledge of federal and state wage and hour laws.
  • Experience with certified payroll and prevailing wages preferred.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Word and Excel skills. Ability to create spreadsheets.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • This position requires excellent math and critical thinking skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Excellent relationship management skills.
  • Outstanding phone etiquette and customer service.
  • Dependable, punctual, mature, confident and accountable.
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to follow through in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to prioritize among competing requirements.

  • This position is expected to pay $70,000 - $80,000 annually; depending on skills, experience, education, and any certifications that are directly related to the position. It is eligible for our annual Short Term Incentive program.
