A key member of the BAM UK&I Business Finance team supporting both Operations & Commercial teams. As part of the Rail regional management team your responsibilities will include financial & risk management, strategic development support, driving performance, reporting and internal controls. You will be directly providing financial expertise and guidance on financial reporting, risk management, cash & working capital, business systems & processes and internal control whilst also supporting key change management initiatives.

Reporting to the Transport Senior Business Controller will be the Finance Lead for Rail business and supporting SBC with overall Transport and Transformation activities. Matrix management into Operational leads for each Rail Regional business.

Transport includes Highways (midlands), Rail Major Projects (Transpennine) and the Rail Regional business (West (Bristol), Eastern (York and Stratford) South (Kent, Surrey and Sussex), currently bidding for additional work in Midlands and ad-hoc opportunities in Scotland.

Can be based from any of our offices inCamberley or London with an opportunity for hybrid working.

Your mission
  • Build relationships and improve collaboration with divisional leadership teams demonstrating strong understanding of project & divisional financial performance and associated key divisional risks & opportunities
  • Develop and maintain reporting to support business decisions and risk mitigation, key areas being P&L, cash and orderbook
  • Providing challenge and support as part of the Senior Leadership during monthly and quarterly financial reviews
  • Achievement of month-end deadlines demonstrating accurate accounting records and internal controls
  • Timely and accurate completion of budgets and forecasts with comprehensive trend and KPI analysis including management of financial risk and opportunity registers
  • Co-ordinate project cash flow forecasts with monthly WIP and debt reviews to improve/maintain working capital
  • Periodic review of internal CTE rates and external sales rates in line with commercial agreements
  • Supporting ad-hoc projects and initiatives as required
  • Direct responsibility for the management and development of direct reports such as Project Accountants
  • Support the data provision and actualization of CVRs and BMR for QSs
  • Independent review of project performance, cost adjustments and EoL forecasts
  • Ensure strict adherence to revenue recognition policy and processes throughout
  • Support the Divisional Commercial Manager and SBC in the accounting and reporting of Rail Projects
  • CTC reporting
  • Work with Group finance and the business to ensure financial reporting timetables and controls adherence
  • Cash flow forecasting modeling and support for review by CDM and SBC
  • WIP reporting and action plans
  • Governance on templates (monthly, qtly)
  • Reconciliation of actuals from BMR to SAP inc Ohd% and recoveries.
  • Support the ongoing forecasting and budgeting process within the company
  • Financial Modelling & Bids - Work closely with key business partners to create and maintain key financial and scenario based models which support strategic business decisions
  • Timely and accurate completion of budgets and forecasts with comprehensive trend and KPI analysis

Who are we looking for?

The following are mandatory requirements for the role:

  • Ability to (and can evidence can) build long term value based relationships with peers
  • Qualified CIMA/ACA
  • Good Excel skills (Pivot, lookup, formula, formatting,)
  • Experience of basic Microsoft packages
  • Highly motivated, committed individual with a track record of delivering good quality finance outputs.
  • Reporting in a corporate environment
  • Analytical review and presenting to senior leaders
  • Experience of providing financial support to operational managers in a project environment (Business Partnering) preferably in Construction/Engineering with proven track record in previous role(s)

The following are desirable requirements for the role

  • Knowledge of civil engineering, construction and/or general contracting or long term project accounting
  • Good knowledge of IFRS and general accounting
  • Working knowledge of joint venture accounting, Costbase and Overhead management (CTC/general overheads) and FP&A
  • Previous experience of SAP
  • Previous experience of high volume transactions
