What will you be doing?

We are currently looking for an Indirect Tax Manager to join our tax team at Argus. The role will report into our UK based Head of Tax and will sit within a core tax team of six.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, reliable, diligent, pro-active and have a flexible approach to managing their workload. They will also be process oriented and have a keen eye for detail. They will need to work efficiently in order to meet tight reporting timelines.

This role is a great opportunity for someone looking to develop their career further in indirect tax. You will be responsible for all aspects of indirect tax at Argus Media. You will work closely with the Head of Tax to develop the indirect tax strategy and help Argus Media navigate the challenges faced by the rapidly evolving indirect tax environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparation and submission of UK group quarterly VAT returns.
  • Preparation and submission of indirect tax returns in Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria, Netherlands, South Africa, Singapore, Malaysia and the UAE, working with external advisors as required.
  • Preparation of US sales tax returns in 13 US States using third party tax reporting software (Avalara).
  • Monitoring and identification of new indirect tax registrations and potential de-registrations.
  • Reconciliation of indirect tax balance sheet accounts.
  • Monitor e-invoicing requirements and work with our business systems team to identify solutions.
  • Estimation of future indirect tax payments for the purposes of cashflow forecasting.
  • Working with the finance team to process tax code adjustment journals.
  • Responsible for identifying indirect tax cost leakage and recommending process changes.
  • Research and determination of the taxability of different types of services and goods.
  • Acting as the main point of contact when working with advisors.
  • Corresponding with tax authorities as required, taking the lead during tax audits.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior members of the tax team and other members of the wider finance team.
  • Working with accounts payable and receivable teams to ensure the correct coding of invoices.
  • Providing transactional support to other departments including sales, conferences and legal.
  • Remote line management of at least one junior employee based in Mumbai.
  • Assisting the Head of Tax with other ad-hoc projects as required.

Skills & Experience
  • Qualified accountant (preferably Big 4 trained).
  • In-house experience preferable but not necessary.
  • Track record of identification, implementation and documentation of process and control improvements.
  • Willingness to learn, and to be proactive in taking on new challenges.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
  • Strong time management skills with a flexible approach to managing workload and meeting short external reporting deadlines.
  • Experience with NetSuite accounting software and Avalara tax engine would be advantageous.
