Within the Global Risk & Compliance organization, the Market Risk Oversight Group is the independent risk management team covering all financial risks undertaken by the Treasury function at American Express. The team's core responsibility is to design and execute risk measurement and controls across balance sheet management areas, including funding and liquidity risk, market risk, and capital management. The role will assume the responsibility of overseeing key areas in market risk (including investments), Capital management and deposits funding, leveraging analytical frameworks for independent risk assessment and providing effective challenge to the processes.

This candidate will report to Senior Manager, Market Risk Oversight, and will be responsible for in-depth reviews of Asset & Liability, Capital & FX Management processes, undertaking independent reviews on Treasury tools and frameworks, ensuring compliance with regulations and internal policies, managing relationships with first line partners, assisting in regulatory interactions & audit exams, and enhancing the market risk management program as American Express's balance sheet grows.

Responsibilities
  • Provide effective oversight on Non model tools and frameworks in the enterprise
  • Perform independent review and oversight of market risk related processes, including but not limited to methodologies and assumptions
  • Develop data-driven insights to support financial and risk management decisions
  • Identify new and emerging market risks and develop measurement and mitigation strategies
  • Conduct gap assessment and compare industry best practices to strengthen risk controls and meet heightened regulatory standard
  • Collaborate effectively with all stakeholders and partners to ensure regulatory compliance and manage regulatory relationship and exams for safety & soundness related regulations

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field, is required
  • Experience in Economic Research and Financial risk management preferred
  • Strong communication skills with technical writing experience and ability highly preferred
  • Strong analytical skills and business acumen with a risk-reward control perspectivewith experience with data-driven analytical tools (e.g. SQL,HIVE/HADOOP, Python)
  • Proactive in identifying issues, delivering and escalating key findings, and advising on recommended solutions to correct issues or mitigate risks
  • Strong analytical skills, including a proving ability to translate complex and disparate information to develop a comprehensive and cohesive conclusion for colleagues, business partners, and senior leaders
