About this area The Finance Business Partner Team is responsible for providing comprehensive accounting and finance support to the designated business units. The main responsibilities of a Finance Business Partner include budgeting, forecasting, management reporting and variance analysis, key financial and non-financial KPIs monitoring/reporting, cost-benefit analysis, financial data modelling and other related duties. These services will be provided in line with agreed service level agreements.

Accountabilities Financial and Management Accounting Services
Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting • Provide financial and management accounting advice to the designated Reporting Line (RL)/Business Units (BU) providing support
services to the University. This includes support for budget development, analysis of variances and recommendations to “manage” variances as required.

Review and ensure accurate financial accounting for the designated
business unit(s) in line with PBE IPSAS and the University's accounting
policies and practices. This includes preparation/review of
revenue/cost accrual journals.

Assist with the extraction and interpretation of financial data to
satisfy external and internal requests.

Provide accounting support to designated semi-autonomous
commercial operation(s)

Budgeting & Forecasting

Actively assist (including populating the budget/forecast packs) with
revenue and expense budgeting/forecasting, including phasing over
12 months, for the designated business units within the required
deadlines.

Review the budgets and forecast with the budget centre managers /
Heads of Department, summarise key results and report back to the
RL/BU leadership team as well as leadership within the Finance team.

Uplift financial literacy and budget management skills across the
budget centre managers and other staff involved in financial activities
within designated business units.

Management Reporting

Review of month end results and investigating variances against
budgets and forecasts.

Prepare monthly management reports for the RL/BU Leadership.
Provide reporting and commentary to the Financial
Services team for inclusion in the Senior Leadership
Team and Council reporting, in line with required
formats and deadlines.

Financial Modelling • Provide input into RL's Strategic Plans.
and Advice • Provide input into the designated Business Units' Strategic Plans.

To understand financial and non-financial data linkages, undertake

data modelling (e.g. revenue and expenditure, staff, space etc.) as required by RL/BU leadership.

Provides financial / commercial support and advice for proposals
around changes to existing and new projects/arrangements.

Provide financial / commercial support and advice for the
development of business cases.

Understand BU's/RL's needs while adhering to University's policies

and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and develop and fine-tune systems and reporting accordingly

procedures to provide advice to the Office of Provost.

Attend board, steering and working group meetings as required.
Approve Purchase Orders and other financial transactions in line with

financial delegations.
Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications: • A tertiary qualification in accounting and/or finance is desirable for this position.

Membership of a recognised accounting body is desirable.

Experience: • At least five-year's experience working in management and /or financial accounting in a large organisation.

Experience of working in a Tertiary Education Institute is desirable.
Demonstrable experience of working with large numbers of

stakeholders.

Demonstrable experience of working with large sets of complex data.
Experience of writing financial reports for senior management.
